Friends, especially friends in the City of Richmond, if you want the 3 minute background as to why my neighbors recruited me to put my name on the ballot in November it’s because I care about my neighbors & community.
I’m personally tired of living 5 doors down from an illegal group home that’s a revolving door of convicted violent sexual offenders of minors. Another moved in just yesterday.
I’ve been in touch with Richmond City Council for 2.5 years and with Councilmember Sarah Abubaker since the day she took office.
I’ve been in touch with Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg.
I’ve been in touch with the head of Zoning.
I’ve been in touch with my opponent Delegate Carr.
And finally, at the Senator’s committee’s suggestion I’ve contacted The Richmond Police Department because as of July 1st this home is breaking state law. The Lt told me “it’s above his pay grade and not to bother calling his captain because it’s above his pay grade too” and for me to call Richmond City Council.
We’ve literally come full circle.
So now I’m now in touch with the Mayor’s office.
The questions I’ve been asking for 2.5 years now is…
When a neighbor gets raped or killed by a drunk or high violent convicted sexual offender of minors that is living in a know unprofessionally run illegal group home, how much culpability & liability will the city have?
And secondly, what will it take for someone to care enough to act on this situation before we have to find out the answer to the other question?
It’s embarrassing that any citizen has to fight this hard just to be heard by their own elected officials.
That’s the backstory of how & why I ended up on the ballot. Literally just caring about my neighborhood.
